INTRODUCTION
The Department of pediatrics is concerned with the health of infants, children and adolescents; their growth and development; and their opportunity to achieve full potential as adults. Pediatrics must be concerned not only with particular organ systems and biological processes, but also with environmental and social influences, which have a major impact on the physical, emotional and mental health and social wellbeing of children and their families.
The department is focused to uplift the overall wellbeing of children of the community and to educate medical students in such a way that they are well equipped to handle health problems of patients.
Department of Pediatrics is 58 bedded well established department, providing 24/7 emergency facilities, OPD facilities, immunization and neonatal care including neonatal ICU.
The department is actively engaged in teaching and clinical activities for under graduate MBBS students.
RESEARCH work is also being done in the Pediatric department, KFTH.
PEDIATRIC EMERGENCY:
Department has a fully functional and well equipped Pediatric emergency providing 24/7 emergency facilities to the patients. The Department has a separate staff designated for emergency and has all the facilities to deal with emergencies including trained staff and equipment’s like suctioning machines, nebulizers, intubation/ ventilators and defibrillators e.t.c.
PEDIATRIC OPD:
Department is providing OPD services to the patients in the morning from 8 to 3 pm.
The department is running asthma clinics, diabetic clinics, oral rehydration room and growth clinic.
IMMUNIZATION CENTRE:
The department has an immunization centre approved by the government providing all the vaccinations to the children according to EPI schedule. The centre is also providing health education to the patients regarding preventive measures.
PEDIATRIC INDOOR:
The department has a 38 bedded indoor facility with good bed occupancy.
PEDIATRIC ICU:
The department has 8 bedded ICU unit with all the facilities including cardiac monitors, central oxygen supply, Ventilators, defibrillators, suctioning facilities e.t.c.
NEONATAL ICU:
Pediatric department has 12 bedded neonatal unit equipped with neonatal incubators, phototherapy facilities, central oxygen, cardiac monitors, neonatal ventilators etc.
RESUSCITATION FACILITIES IN THE LABOR ROOM AND THEATRE:
The department has a resuscitation room in the labour room equipped with radiant warmer and the all the resuscitation facilities including oxygen supply.
WELL BABY ROOM:
The department has a well-baby room providing counselling to the mothers/attendants regarding breast feeding and monitoring of the new borns.
