Synopsis of Surgery Department:
The Department of General Surgery of Amna Inayat Medical College was established in the year 2010 with the start of clinical classes at its attached Kishwar Fazal Teaching Hospital, Shaikhu pura.
The General Surgery Department is the most vibrant and dynamic department of the AIMCE, comprised of 80 beds equipped with most modern equipments and one 20 bedded Surgical Intensive Care Unit (ICU) which is studded with fully functional 20 monitors and 20 modern ventilators. The ward caters Accident and Emergency services 24/7 and is attached with a modern Emergency theater, which has the ancillary services of HDU, Emergency Radiological and Pathological facilities.
The operation theaters of the department of surgery are the state of the art operation theaters which are well equipped and furnished with fully functional monitors, anaesthesia machines and ventilators with central oxygen supply.
The department is performing every sort of major and minor surgical procedures, like colorectal, hepato-billiary, and cancer surgeries, thyroid, head and neck and breast surgeries. The department is having special interest in minimal access surgery and are being done as a routine performing every sort of Laparoscopic Surgeries like cholecystectomy, hemicolectomies, varicocelectomies ect. In addition to these department is doing vascular surgeries, urological surgeries pediatric surgical procedures as well.
The surgical Out Patient Department is fully functional OPD with the presence of medical officer and house officers who are supervised by Senior Consultants from 08: 00 AM to 02:30 PM.
The teaching and training of the junior doctors is the top priority of the department. For this purpose there is a morning meeting on daily basis in which important cases are discussed in professor office. After wards there is teaching round in the wards where every patient is discussed regarding his/her disease and the management plan. In addition to these there is two power point presentations per week and a journal club in a week.
The staff of Surgical Department caters to the teaching requirements of Amna Inayat Medical College and Faryal Dental College for both MBBS (3rd year, 4th year, Final year) and BDS classes in the subject of Surgery to impart professional knowledge and clinical skills. College is affiliated with the University of Health Sciences, Lahore.
The unit has structured programme for undergraduate MBBS students and post graduate students.
The Operation Theatre Assistants classes for paramedics are also being arranged in addition to their training and services it is mandatory for them to learn the SOPS and strictly observe them regarding the different suits of the hospital set up.
